Management of complex Projects

Michael vom Baur has been involved in the management numerous ambitious large scale projects (in part or full responsibility role) during his more than 35 years industry career. Thus, he can count on a rare treasure of experiences in managing (technical and / or commercial) complex challenges, which require a very good technical understanding and risk awareness, organizational structure and assertiveness as well as motivation and negotiation skills. Thereby the main experiences are in maritime industry.

Some examples:

  • Project management (as one of 3 managing directors) in the merger phase of two shipyards (in East Germany) with a total of 2.500 employees, including due diligence, harmonization of corporate / work processes and outsourcing of redundant employees (with new perspective)
  • Leading the bidding team of a German shipyard consortium in cooperation with strong subcontractors from France, U.K. and Italy, as well as the following successful contract negotiations in a tender for 6 mine counter measure vessels (MCMV) for the Turkish Navy (incl. Technology Transfer and Offset Elements), total value more than US$ 650 M
  • Lead and coordination of all staff and activities regarding LNG-Technology in Europe's largest shipbuilding group (Aker Yards ASA), including management of large development projects and trouble shooting in context with licenses and technical support for the first LNG Carriers built in China (at Hudong Zhonghua Yard, Shanghai)
  • Management of a multi-year, EU-funded „Network of Excellence“ (www.maritime-visions.net) with 24 partners from 11 countries
